About
Marina Dayton combines a modern sensibility with a deep respect for historical context. She creates spaces that are gracious, clean, warm and inviting. Marina enjoys equally the process of designing the larger volumes, and the detailing of the smallest elements while always exploring new and inventive ways to apply materials. The goal is always the same: to create spaces that elevate the way we live and tell a story of their inhabitants.
Whether designing a modern beach house, or a pre-war apartment, Marina works very closely with her clients to design a space that reflects their tastes, traditions and daily routines. Marina is involved through every stage of the project, from schematic design (and even property selection in some cases) through construction, collaborating with the contractors and tradespeople to ensure that the final product is exactly as imagined from the start, in keeping with the client’s schedule and budget.
Marina received her Master of Architecture from Yale School of Architecture in 2006 and worked for many years as an Architectural Designer at Selldorf Architects. She was fortunate to have wonderful mentors at both that provided the foundation and inspiration to start her own firm in 2011. Marina was raised in New York City, and now lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Jasper van Santen and their children, Friso and Isabelle.
